What up with this project?
Well as of now it is on hold a lil bit; my company, webactive.llc is working on a groundbreaking new open source business model. This is not your run-of-the-mill "open source business model", up until this point there has NOT been a business model for developers/companies to work, and profit on their own planned open software (as in GPL). There has not been a medium between proprietary, and open software. We are working on creating a medium in hopes for our company, and to pull other proprietary vendors into the open source world, and profit. All in all; I will be publishing a large paper to the internet offering up a truly unique business model, and commenting on insights with how this could change open source landscapes. This project will continued as planned when I have completed this, and a few other tasks. I will keep you posted.

*Notice* Blog advertisements in the comments section WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! I will delete any, and all advertisements if I see them. I do not have a problem with people sending others to their blog if it is useful, and so forth. Advertisements are another story though.

The winner is (drumrolls), Internet Researching! Open Office:1, GAIM:1, GIMP:3, and Internet Researching:4. The polls will be reset now, I will be trying a different polling system this time (sparklit). I have a feeling this will get rid of those nasty lil pop-ups bravenet likes so much.

Due to suggestions from the last movie "firefox", I have decided to lay things out in a *NEW* slick CSS/XML/Flash setup. This setup is as described below.

1) The in-movie text will be removed. Instead opting for CSS formatted XML text above the movie.
2) The flash movie will not initially appear, instead the user will first see the text (read it), and then will click on a "Show Me" link below the text to make the movie appear (via Javascript). (the movie will not be a pop-up)
3) The tutorial will be more modular, and will have navigation techniques. I am considering doing something like a XML data-island (javascripted cross browser), so there will only be 1-2 files to download.
4) Each data chunk of tutorial will be a quicker download, this is due to smaller file size. Since the flash movies will be no more than 10 seconds for each task, movie size will range from 100k-1.5 meg I am guessing.
5) Downloadable packages will be included this time, this is something I forgot to include last time.
6) This layout will be posted, and available to others for their own movies! I am thinking about even providing a simple little java-based tool that will make setup a snap.

So this is how the process brake-down will look, I have decided to attempt a little more open system this time. Since this is a, Open Source Project.

1) Script Generation
2) Script Is Submitted For Review From Community. (If you want to get any comments in, errors, or things that I missed that would be the time to do it)
3) Layout Generation
4) Movie Generation
5) Implement movie in layout, and submit to archive.org.
6) *Post* when available.

Well that is all for now, again if anyone else would like to work on a movie tutorial for their favorite open source project LET ME KNOW. You would need to follow the same process as described above, but you would not need to have a poll taken; you could just go out and get started.

*Notice*, this is the last day to vote. I started to notice that bravenet likes to put pop-ups with there mini-poll on the main page; which is sad because I will have to drop service with them. That type of pointless stuff is a good way to lose visitors. I did manage to find another polling place http://www.sparklit.com/ . They seems to like banners more, on the results page (which I am ok with). Let me know what you think of it. Also, google ads have been added in a non-intrusive area on the blog. For the most part it is below all the other content on the right hand side (even the hit counter!).

Sunday will be the last voting day. At that point I will remove the winning topic, and replace it with a new one. Then the poll will be reset.

Still waiting on that firefox tutorial. I might have found someone to donate bandwidth until it goes through. So until it does I have decided to begin generating script for the next tutorial. So this time around I would like the community input :-D. GIMP? or Open Office? Taking into consideration that Open Office would take (obviously) much longer. Vote on the poll!
